I have been working with wood, sometimes professionally and sometimes out of passionate interest, for more than 25 years. Early in my career I worked with Charles McRaven in Virginia on custom homes of either log or post and beam construction. We restored old places and got to work with some terrific material including American chestnut and heart pine–both commercially extinct now. That was also an interesting experience for the connection to the past–both the early history of our nation as well as the craftsman who first worked that wood. I also build furniture and cabinets on occasion, and have now been turning for a little more than 12 years.

I write about my passions as often as I can find the time. I have two books to my credit (on ornithology related topics) and numerous articles. My musings on woodturning have appeared in American Woodturner and Woodturning Design, with some reprints linked below.

I have also demonstrated turning at clubs and events around the region. I have a small portable lathe in my arsenal that I occasionally take to gallery shows or art events for demonstration purposes. If you’re interested in hosting me for a demonstration and/or teaching event, please contact me.

In addition to selling my work on-line, my work appears in a few select galleries. Gallery 873 in Ivins, UT, represents some of the work in my petroglyph series. I am a member of the Winthrop Gallery (Winthrop, WA) where my work can be seen throughout the year. I also appear in the occasional show at the Confluence Gallery, in Twisp, WA.
